(51) Finding a Method to Subscription Madness with Whitney Harper of ADVOS Pro

Whitney Harper is a co-founder of ADVOS Legal, an innovative law firm that uses a subscription membership model instead of hourly billing. She started out in Big Law but eventually moved in-house and enjoyed focusing on providing value rather than tracking billable hours. Later, Whitney met her business partner Gwen, who had started ADVOS Legal to be a different kind of law firm. They developed the "P3 Method" for pricing work into deliverables using a point system rather than hours. This gives lawyers incentives to work more efficiently while providing predictability for clients.

ADVOS Legal primarily serves growth-stage startup clients who pay a monthly flat fee for legal services. Whitney explains how not billing by the hour allows them to have candid conversations with clients and tailor solutions, leading to better service and relationships. They measure success through Net Promoter Score, which shows how likely clients are to recommend them. ADVOS Legal scores very high, indicating thrilled clients.

Recently, Whitney and Gwen created ADVOS Pro to teach other lawyers how to shift away from hourly billing through their membership-based model. The P3 method course provides a step-by-step framework for pricing and pitching legal work in a new way while still tracking deliverables for accountability. By scaling this training, Whitney hopes to transform legal culture to be healthier for both lawyers and clients.
